A background assessment of available historical and archival records, archaeological sites database, geography and land use history. This process determines if archaeological potential exists on a property, requiring Stage 2 investigation.
Stage 2 - Property Assessment
A property assessment in order to identify all archaeological resources that may be present. The survey consists of either walking a ploughed fields looking for surface artifacts, or a test pit survey of unploughable areas at regular intervals and screening the soil for artifacts.
Stage 3 - Site-specific Assessment
A Site‐specific assessment in order to accurately determine the spatial extent of the archaeological sites, to more completely evaluate the cultural heritage value or interest and where necessary to make recommendations for conducting Stage 4 strategies to mitigate development impacts.
Stage 4 - Archaeological Excavation
